Notes on Methodology

1. Prices given are (usually) to feed my family of two adults and one preschooler. When I calculate the per-person cost, I count the preschooler as half a person. I also account for leftovers that will provide lunch or dinner the next day.

2. I omit pantry standards like olive oil and garlic that add little cost and are ubiquitous in my cooking.

3. The preschooler and I drink skim milk with dinner every night, but I'm leaving that out. For one thing, I can't get my husband to drink it so I don't want to count the nutrition it yields. For another, we drink it every night so it seems sort of silly to include it.

4. Nutritional values are typically based on 1 generic serving, which is probably accurate for me; my husband eats more and the preschooler obviously eats less.
